Keen young equestrian Ramaani, from Southampton, who has a condition called Achondroplasia has finally been able to ride in comfort thanks to Norfolk based Tuffa Boots.

Tuffa Boots specialises in the design and production of equestrian footwear and in addition to their standard ranges of boots offer a Made-to-Measure service, which has enabled 14-year-old Ramaani to wear a pair of long riding boots that fit her perfectly.Ramaani was born with Achondroplasia, which is a type of rare genetic bone disorder that affects how bones develop and causes short arms and legs. She has always loved her horse-riding but has found it difficult to find riding wear and boots to fit.

Following an initial telephone conversation with Michelle Girling, owner of Tuffa Boots, to ascertain Ramaani’s style and design requirements, Ramaani’s mum Tracey was guided through the boot design and measurement process to ensure a perfect fit.

On receipt of the boots Tracey said: “With Ramaani having Achondroplasia, getting riding gear to fit and be comfortable has not been easy, but Tuffa has understood her shape, measurements and the style she wanted brilliantly. Ramaani couldn’t wait to get back in the saddle and show off her new boots.”

Michelle replied “We are delighted to have been able to help Ramaani. We are proud to be an inclusive company and our Made-To Measure service enables us to make quality, comfortable boots for everyone.

Having a pair of boots that fit properly can make all the difference to a rider’s confidence and capability. We can’t wait to see Ramaani progress with her riding and hopefully we’ll see her winning many rosettes in the future”

Michelle Girling, Owner of Tuffa Boots

Norfolk based Tuffa Boots, has recently donated some excess riding accessory stock to the charity Riding for the Disabled, and is currently looking for more equestrian charities who would like to receive some free riding gloves and riding chaps.

Tuffa Boots is a family-owned business specialising in the design, production and distribution of horse riding and country boots and accessories including chaps, gloves, gaiters and socks. The stock available for donation is from ends of lines, over stocks, ex-display and seconds. Rather than sell the items off at a reduced price Tuffa owner Michelle Girling wanted to donate them to equestrian charities to help them to raise vital funds or use at their discretion.

Michelle said: “We know that times have been exceptionally hard for all charities during the pandemic, but particularly for those connected to the horse world. As we are such an equestrian focussed business, we felt that it would be a lovely idea to help some charities close to our hearts.  The offer is open to any equestrian charity and we will help as many as we can while stocks last.”

Equestrian charities who are interested in receiving a donation of riding gloves and chaps should apply via email to

Tuffa sponsored National Hunt Jockey, Danny Cook, was sadly forced into retirement after a heavy fall at Market Rasen in October 2020, where he needed 60 stitches, and a subsequent fall at Newcastle.

Our owner, Michelle Girling, was introduced to Danny by Sue and Harvey Smith, owners of Sue Smith Racing, and his biggest success for Tuffa was winning the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on Midnight Shadow.

Danny’s daughter Isobel is proudly following in her father’s equestrian footsteps and winning ways, although in different disciplines, and the Tuffa Team is proud to announce our continued sponsorship of the Cook family with our newest recruit Isobel.

Danny (left) is Isobel’s tetrathlon pony that she also events. He’s a very forward, enthusiastic boy who can be quite strong, but he’s very game and everyone loves him.

Prince belongs to some of the Cook’s lovely family friends on Exmoor and they have had him from a 3-year-old. He is only 5 but has already won the PC SJ regional Championships this summer – so he’s super talented and incredibly naughty!!!

We wish Isobel and her ponies every success for the year ahead…and definitely keep your eyes peeled for her as a talent to watch for the future!

Tuffa owner and boot designer, Michelle Girling, was delighted to visit the South Wales Mounted Police near Bridgend last week to measure up their team of mounted police officers for their new safety riding boots.

The South Wales force has selected the bespoke Tuffa Pembroke boot, a long leather riding boot with a steel toe cap, as the boot of choice for their hard-working team.

The Pembroke safety boot has an EN ISO 20345 approved steel toe cap and is made from full-grain water-repellent leather with a non-slip rubber sole, providing the officers with excellent foot protection and safety around the yard and whilst riding. As the Pembroke boots are bespoke and made to each officers’ individual measurements, they will also be extremely comfortable for long days in the saddle.

Michelle said: “We had a fabulous day meeting the team and their horses. What a privilege it is to make safety boots for the only mounted police section in Wales and for a team that provides such fantastic police support.

All the horses were perfectly behaved throughout the day, although they did think that our pockets were full of treats!”

Team Stockdale test and recommend their favourite Tuffa Boots including a wide range of riding and yard boots.

Team Stockdale wears a selection of Tuffa jodhpur and yard boots, including; Morgan, Fjord, Polo, Tipperary, Clydesdale, Spartan Safety and Wayland Safety Boots. Joe Stockdale wears our bespoke boot "The Stockdale" for competing.

For many years we proudly sponsored the late, great, Team GB Olympic Showjumper, Tim Stockdale, and now the mantle has been passed down to Joseph Stockdale, showjumper, equine influencer and all-around chip-off-the-old-block!

Joe's been riding since he was 4 years old, but he's not only a gifted equestrian; he also competed and played for Northampton County Cricket from age 11, choosing to focus on riding in 2018.

We are Joe and Team Stockdale's sole, sole provider! Joe wears our bespoke riding boots "The Stockdale" which were developed with Tim and Joe back in 2015.

Working with Joe is very exciting, his equestrian career is climbing and he's very proactive with his brand and the brands of his sponsors.

His social media presence has an ever-growing audience and for us having that injection of youthful enthusiasm is very refreshing.

...and boy oh boy were we impressed with the effort that Brucie from Somerset made for his partner, Sarah, this week!

Setting off at 5 am from Somerset, Sarah and Brucie made the 400 mile plus round trip to Tuffa Headquarters and Showroom in Norfolk to get Sarah a pair of Tuffa Broadland made-to-measure boots!

Whilst we often do bespoke boot measurements on Facetime or sent by email, Sarah really wanted to come to the showroom so that our owner Michelle could take her measurements.

After nearly 5 hours on the road, Brucie and Sarah finally checked in to Tuffa Headquarters at 10 am! Sarah’s reply to Brucie’s check-in on Facebook was “You’re wonderful. Don’t forget it”

Tuffa owner Michelle said: “It was lovely to meet Sarah and Brucie, and it was a pleasure to find Sarah her perfect boot! I still can’t believe they made such a long journey to visit our showroom. It definitely must be love”
